My name is Minor Kates, but I usually go by the nickname "Butch".
The last 40+ years I have sailed in the engine department for the U.S. Merchant Marine, thirty of those years sailing as Chief Engineer on tankers (pictured is my last ship). The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the entire marine engineering department on the vessel and responsible for the maintenance and operation of all equipment on-board.
I’ve worked with my hands my entire life. This began when I purchased my first rental home as a teenager. When I’m not at sea, I spend my time putting sweat equity into our current home and helping our children with their home projects.
Now that I am retired from the U.S. Merchant Marine, I can devote my time to this business. I will strive to be the best in this field and put my customers first.
